Lexi LawScribe - Legal writing tutor
Meet Lexi LawScribe, a specialised AI tutor designed to support LAW162 students in mastering legal writing.
Built on the Cogniti AI platform, Lexi offers constructive feedback on key aspects of legal writing, including spelling, grammar, structure, punctuation, and citations following AGLC4 standards. Lexi doesn’t just correct errors; she guides students to think and write like a lawyer, helping them build the skills and confidence they need to excel in LAW162. This project is an excellent example of how AI can support academics and provide modern, practical tools that enhance the student experience. Lexi empowers students to refine their work and deepen their understanding of course requirements—without rewriting or completing assignments for them.
How do I use Lexi?
Lexi can provide you with specific information about legal writing, such as what to include in an introduction and conclusion, how to structure your LAW162 assignment, and she can even help you with how to structure other styles of legal writing. For example you can ask questions like:
'How do I write an introduction?' or
‘How should I structure my assignment’ or
How do I separate the physical and the fault elements?’ or
'What’s the difference between a research essay and a legal problem scenario?'
Lexi can answer these questions for you and will even provide you with some AGLC4 examples.
As you draft each section of your assignment, you can paste it into Lexi and she will give you feedback. But Lexi won't draft an answer for you or make any specific corrections. Lexi's role is to help you learn, not to do the work for you. She will advise you on your strengths and any areas for improvement. You can then re-write your attempt based on her suggestions for improvement and ask her to check it again until you are happy with it.
Is Lexi safe to use?
You can use Lexi with confidence because your interactions with Lexi are anonymous. Your name is not visible, even to us who work with Lexi. If Lexi says anything that surprises you or that seems at odds with something said in lectures or tutorials, please double-check with Karthi or Claudia. If there is any conflict between the advice given by Lexi and that given by the teaching staff, always follow the advice given by the teachers.
